Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas reports small engine room fire

allure You can now add a small engine room fire aboard the world’s largest cruise ship, Allure of the Seas, to the “cruise industry mishap” list  for 2012.

Allure was headed back to Port Everglades from St. Maarten on Friday evening when the small fire broke out. A spokesperson with the cruise line told The Miami Herald it was “a small and short-lived engine fire.” Also stating in an email, “The ship’s high fog system was immediately activated, which contained and extinguished the fire.”

Popular cruise website Cruise Critic had members aboard the ship when the fire broke out and they sent text messages to their love ones.

Member DJDavesS received this text from his cousin aboard the ship, “Fire on board – All is fine but it was a panic on the ship – emergency sirens – lock down on all floors – PA announcements every few mins.”

No passengers or crew were injured during the small engine room fire and the Allure of the Seas is scheduled to be back in Port Everglades on Sunday morning as scheduled. The ship was on a seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailing.
