Here in Jacksonville, Florida it has been just as bitterly cold. I wake up every morning at 3:45 to get ready for work and there is nothing like stepping outside and waiting for the car to warm up in sub-arctic temperatures! I find myself doing a dance sometimes outside my car while the car warms up (luckily no one is up that early).

Just to give you an idea of how cold it actually was around the state, check out these record breaking temperatures:

Miami: 37 F
Tampa: 25 F
Orlando: 29 F
Key West: 42 F
Tallahassee: 14 F
Jacksonville: 17 F

You can only imagine how this effected the power grids in all these communities across Florida (we usually has temps in the 60′s this time of year).

On Saturday night, I refused to go out. My digital thermometer on my porch said 27 F and that was at the beaches! Okay, I will stop complaining. My best friend lives in Indianapolis and he has been getting dumped on with snow.

So I was asked the other day:

Carnival Conquest in Key West, Fla.

What is Key West like?

Great seafood, drinks, tourism, and beauty are a couple of words that would describe Key West, Florida. If you ever been there you know exactly what I am talking about. With a population of about 24,000 people and just a few square miles in size, Key West is the perfect starting point for your Caribbean vacation.

I will never forget my first memory of Key West at 14, only one word to describe it, WOW!

Cruise ships pull into Key West, Florida usually in the morning about 8 am and spend just a few hours in port. The port isn’t super huge so you can really do everything you want to do in the few hours you are there.

Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Disney are just a few ships that pull into port almost on a daily occasion, knowing that, it wouldn’t hurt to scout the island out online before you get there. You may want to even consider booking your land excursions before you arrive.

Just a few places you may want to consider while your there is Mallory square, conch train tour, The USA’s southern most point, Sloppy Joes bar, and a walk on Duval street…. the list goes on.

There will be a few cabs around the pier when you get off, its about 20 bucks to take a tour of the island. There is also a lot of bars, tourist places, great restaurants, and sights to see while you are on the island. Make sure you pay attention to your daily cruise itinerary because the ships don’t stay in port for a long time (about 8 hours).

Personally, I love to walk down Duval street, grab a few a drinks at a couple of the local bars, and maybe watch a band or two play (one thing there is no shortage of). In March, I was in Key West for the day and country music singer Kenny Chesney was performing at Sloppy Joes bar. You just never know who you will see there.

What are your favorite things to do in Key West, Fla.?
