The quaint Canadian seaport of Trois Rivieres welcomed their first ship of the season today, Fred Olsen Cruise Line’s 1,200-passenger Balmoral.

“I have met many passengers since this morning, and I have heard only positive comments. They find Trois Rivieres clean and welcoming. I feel that this day is a great success,” says Trois Rivieres mayor, Yves Lévesque.

After the ship docked at 7:30 am, a small plaque and key ceremony took place aboard the ship celebrating the Balmoral’s first call.

The port created a team of 70 volunteers to help welcome the passengers and local vendors came and showcased area offerings.

Located on the St. Lawrence River, Trois Rivieres is scheduled to have three cruise ships this month.

2012 has been a significant year for cruises on the St. Lawrence, with ships docking in each one of its nine ports. A record number 250,000 cruise ship passengers have sailed on the St. Lawrence this year.
