Carnival Cruise Line has extended its suspension of North American operations until June 26, 2020. The cruise line now has a return-to-service target date of June 27, 2020.

In addition, Carnival announced they are canceling all Carnival Sunrise itineraries out of New York City throughout 2020.

Why Carnival Made The Change

Previously, Carnival planned to resume service on May 10, however, the Centers for Disease Control filed a new “no sail order” to set the framework of moving forward.

The new “no sail order” is set to expire in mid-July but has the option to be rescinded before then under the guidance of the Director of the CDC.

In a memo sent out on Monday morning, the cruise line said: “Carnival Cruise Line shares the global priorities of health and safety for all.  We will use this extended pause to continue to take care of the crew that remains on board and continue to bring non-essential crew home.”

Last week, Carnival announced that they would be taking a conservative approach when it came to returning to service.

The memo went on to say, “We are actively engaged with the industry and our stakeholders on additional protocols that we will be implementing when we resume service.  We are dedicated to maintaining confidence in our commitment to protecting the health and safety of our guests, crew and the communities we serve.”
