Celebrity Cruises’ 3,030-guest Celebrity Reflection has officially left the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany and headed for sea trials in the North Sea.
Thousands of on lookers lined the banks of Ems River to watch the vessel sail backwards for about 10 hours. Preparations for the transit – known as “the conveyance” – include removing power lines and railway tracks that normally pass over the river, to allow the ship to pass through. The journey must take place when wind conditions are calm and at high tide to ensure ample depth of water in the river to prevent the possibility of the ship scraping the paint.
Celebrity Reflection will start revenue sailings from Amsterdam to Belgium and France to Barcelona before crossing the Atlantic, arriving in Miami on December 1.
Celebrity Reflection will offer seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailings from Miami.
