Setting sail first are Cigar City’s Florida Cracker Belgian-Style White Ale and Invasion Pale Ale. Florida Cracker Belgian-Style White Ale is named for the colonial-era “Cracker” cowboys of Florida, while Invasion Pale Ale is Cigar City’s version of a “session” beer (a beer with a relatively low alcohol content), in a hoppy ale that celebrates Tampa’s alleged history of being a pirate hideout.
Announced onboard the Carnival Legend in Tampa, this is the first partnership of its kind for a major cruise line. Carnival is tapping into the exploding craft beer market in Florida and with 13 ships based in the state, over two million passengers each year will have the chance to sample these new offerings.
“Carnival continues to seek high-quality brands to enhance our guests’ experience, and Cigar City Brewing has been rated among the top Craft Breweries in the world,” said Eddie Allen, Carnival’s vice president of beverage operations. Carnival will continue to offer its’ private label draught beer, ThirstyFrog Red, across the entire fleet.
Carnival sails from 5 Florida ports: Tampa, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Port Canaveral and Jacksonville and offers a variety of three-to eight-day sailings to Mexico, the Bahamas and Caribbean throughout the year.
Cigar City Brewing, based in Tampa, started in 2009 and currently offers a line of four beers, including Cucumber Saison, Jai Alai India Pale Ale, Florida Cracker Belgian-Style Pale White Ale and Invasion Pale Ale, along with a number of seasonal releases.
