Today we pack up the broadcast gear and head over to Barcelona, Spain for a nine-night sailing aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s newly refurbished Carnival Sunshine (formerly Carnival Destiny). The cruise is going to take us on a one-way sailing from Barcelona to Venice, stopping at eight ports in between.
This is going to be an especially interesting cruise for me because Carnival Destiny was my first real cruise. I am sure it will bring back a lot of memories from June 1999. Not to mention before the transformation it was Carnival Destiny, once the largest ship in the world.
The flight
The flight is going to be quite long, but well worth it. We will start our journey from Jacksonville to Atlanta, a brief layover in Atlanta before catching a nine-hour flight over to Barcelona. If all goes according to planned we will be touching down on Friday morning and heading straight to Carnival Sunshine.
The ports
- Barcelona, Spain
- Marseille, France
- Livorno, Italy
- Rome, Italy
- Naples, Italy
- Messina, Italy
- Dubrovnik, Croatia
- Venice, Italy
The buzz
There’s a lot of excitement around Carnival Sunshine, from the architectural marvel of rebuilding a new ship inside an existing hull to the add-ons with the Fun Ship 2.0 initiatives. It seems like it’s the whole package — we’ll soon find out soon enough.
The cabins are redecorated, a waterfall was added on the Lido deck, new food venues, oh and the beer vending machines look cool. A lot is happening and we are going to be there covering it all from stem to stern.
Can’t wait til we get there? Reviews are slowly starting to come in on Cruise Critic.
