Cruise Delayed by Champagne-Related Accident
There’s nothing like kicking off your cruise with a champagne toast… unless, of course, the bottle’s cork hits you in the eye! That’s exactly what happened to a passenger aboard Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas as it was sailing out of Miami Thursday.
According to the Sun Sentinel, the ship had only just departed the port when a passenger’s right eye was hit by the cork from a bottle she had brought on board. “The guest was initially treated in our medical facility,” Royal Caribbean spokesperson Cynthia Martinez told the paper, “but required additional and urgent medical attention that could only be provided in a hospital.”
As a result, a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat was dispatched, meeting up with the ship about three miles from Miami Beach. Unfortunately, the passenger was unable to return to the ship for the rest of the voyage.
