FAA Experiences System Outage

The Federal Aviation Administration experienced a system outage early Wednesday morning, causing thousands of U.S. flights to be either delayed or canceled.

The Notice to Air Missions system, also called NOTAM, experienced an outage that led the FAA to ground all flights in the U.S. for several hours Wednesday morning. The system provides safety information for pilots including closed runways, military exercises, rocket launches, and more.

Over 8,000 flights within, into, or from the US were delayed, and over one thousand were canceled. The ground stop was officially lifted at 8:50 am, but delays caused by the backlog of flights continued throughout the day.

The Department of Transportation is now conducting an investigation into the cause of the outage.

Norwegian Gem Shortens Time in Bermuda

Before Norwegian Gem could even set sail on her latest five-night voyage Wednesday afternoon, the captain had some bad news for passengers.

The original itinerary on the five-night sailing had the ship spending Friday night in Bermuda before departing on Saturday afternoon. But guests were told that due to inclement weather, they’d only be in Bermuda from 9 am Friday until 3:45 that afternoon before leaving to go back to New York City.

The ship is expected to arrive in the Big Apple early Monday morning.

On the plus side, guests were given $100 per stateroom as an apology for the inconvenience.
