MSC Meraviglia and Liberty of the Seas Rescue Refugees Over The Weekend
Two cruise ships rescued a total of 41 distressed refugees on Saturday.
MSC Meraviglia was returning to Port Canaveral at the end of a nine-night voyage when it encountered an overloaded refugee boat with 24 people on board in the Florida straits. All of the refugees were safely brought onto the cruise ship.
And Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas was in the right place at the right time to rescue 17 more refugees on Saturday. The ship was originally supposed to be docked at CocoCay in the Bahamas, but had to skip the port call due to bad weather. With that weather in the Atlantic over the weekend, 41 people were very fortunate.
