Carnival Acquires Costa Luminosa

Carnival has acquired the 2010-built Costa Luminosa from sister brand Costa Cruises. The vessel is scheduled to begin sailings as Carnival Luminosa this November from Brisbane, Australia.

Carnival’s acquisition of Luminosa replaces previous plans to take and refurbish Costa Magica, which will now stay with Costa.

Luminosa will sail October to April from Brisbane, and spend May through September operating Alaska voyages from Seattle. It’s a Spirit-class ship, alongside Carnival’s existing Spirit-class ships Spirit, Pride, Legend, and Miracle.

Activist Groups Delayed Two Cruise Ships Docking in Marseille on Tuesday

Groups of residents that call themselves Stop Croisières (Stop Cruises) and Extinction Rebellion Marseille attempted to block Wonder of the Seas and MSC Orchestra from docking in Marseille, France Tuesday morning.

In a tweet, Stop Croisières said “We refuse to allow this sea monster to pollute our air, our sea and our lives! This morning we physically oppose it.”

In photos, it appears that the residents blocked the ships by floating in their way in kayaks. They kept the vessels from docking for two and a half hours, despite a police presence.
