Royal Caribbean Captain Passes Away
It’s with a heavy heart I announce that a popular Royal Caribbean captain, Captain Ron Hayes, has lost his battle with cancer. Royal Caribbean president Michael Bayley first made the announcement of his passing.
Staring his career with the Royal Canadian Navy, and then onto cargo ships, Captain Ron joined Royal Caribbean in 1995 and has spent the last 28 years with the company.
He joined the company with Nordic Empress, then Radiance of the Seas, Vision of the Seas, Majesty of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, and Allure of the Seas. I’m probably missing a couple others in there.
Never one to shy away from the camera or interaction with guests, he was passionate about his love of the sea and had a soft spot for giving bridge tours to children of the Make a Wish foundation.
Captain Ron leaves behind his wife Carol and dog Winnie. Fair winds and following seas, Captain Ron.
Carnival Valor Rescues Three People
Carnival Valor’s crew rescued three Hondurans from a small boat adrift in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday after an alert.
The ship’s officers were contacted by USCG officials around noon as Valor was approximately 35 nautical miles away from the boat in distress. The ship’s crew immediately changed course to find the boat and complete the rescue using one of the lifeboats.
Three men, all from Honduras, were saved from the stranded boat and welcomed onto Carnival Valor. They were checked by the ship’s medical personnel and are in good condition. They will be provided food and lodging until Carnival Valor reaches Costa Maya later on this morning.
