Among the favorite destinations of cruise ships, there are some that truly capture the experience and feel like they have been designed for cruise travel. It is true that the huge cruise chips feel like immense homes with thousands of people on board and that they have all the imaginable amenities and even some unimaginable crazy leisure facilities. But all these would just lose their charm if all the time was spent on the sea and the passengers would not have some time to explore the magnificent land destinations spread around the coasts and islands of the world. One of the best travel destinations for cruise passengers can be found in the Canary Islands and is the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an amazing and interesting destination with plenty of things to see and do.
Things to do in Las Palmas:
Any visitor, including the ones coming by sea, with have a great experience in Las Palmas, supposedly considered the place with the best climate in the world. Definitely the best attraction are the beaches, especially thinking about the great weather all year around. The Playa de Las Canteras is a 4 km long beach famous as being among the top city beaches of the world. It is not the only one though, as there are some very close to the city and easily reachable. The beaches are also a great destination for people that want to try something more adventurous like snorkeling or kite-surfing. The city is also an excellent shopping destination, with something rather exotic to offer for cruise passengers, given its location closer to the African continent.
While visiting Las Palmas for the first time, there are also a lot of wonderful attractions to see within the city, apart from the beaches. The Santa Ana Cathedral is one of the features of the city, with exceptional architecture and breathtaking views from the top of the towers. The Casa de Colon Museum is a testament to the past of the Canary Islands and represents an old mansion where Christopher Columbus might have stayed during his trips. Other interesting attractions include the Casa de Perez Galdos Museum, Elder Museum of Science and Technology, Museo Canarios and some others. Two neighborhoods that should definitely be visited during a short visit to the city are the traditional Triana and Vegueta. While it is rather difficult to achieve, if your cruise visits Las Palmas during the yearly festival, it would make for an amazing experience.
