Guests aboard Princess Cruises’ Star Princess were treated to a special presentation from the soldier who sent the telegraph announcing the end of World War II in Europe.

In 1945, then 20 year-old Gregory Melikian was assigned the task from General Dwight Eisenhower declaring the end of the war in Europe. The message was sent from a schoolhouse in Reims, France – a makeshift Allied headquarters.

Hundreds of guests joined Mr. Melikian and the Cruise Director in the Princess Theater for a question and answer session and to shake his hand.

Today he is a philanthropist, business owner and honorary commander of Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. After the presentation, Mr. Melikian and his family got a tour of the navigation bridge.
