Holland America Hosts American Cancer Society Fundraiser

Holland America Line recently hosted a fundraising luncheon for Seattle’s American Cancer Society chapter aboard ms Amsterdam at the Port of Seattle launch event for Hope Gala.  Hope Gala is an ASC black-tie event, featuring a live auction and exclusive dining experience that will be held in September.

Holland America’s president, Orlando Ashford, spoke about the cruise line’s commitment to raising money for the cancer society.  He also shared with attendees that guests aboard their ships can participate in a walk around the deck to help support cancer research through the “On Deck for a Cause” initiative.  The fundraising initiative benefits six international cancer organizations, one of which is the American Cancer Society.

Following the onboard luncheon, guests were invited to a presentation in the ship’s show lounge, and were able to take a tour of the ship.

On Deck for a Cause lets guests participate in a noncompetitive 5k fundraising walk on every sailing aboard every ship in Holland America’s fleet.  Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Cancer Council Australia, Cancer Research UK, Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid), and KWF Kankerbestrijding (Dutch Cancer Society).

Additionally, Holland America also sponsors the ACS Washington Invitational Golf Tournament which will be in July, and the Seattle Hope Gala that will be on September 24 at Bell Harbor.
