Holland America Line Completes Milestone for New Ship

This week the keel was laid for Holland America Line’s new cruise ship, ms Nieuw Statendam.  The vessel is being built by Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, and is set to be delivered at the end of 2018.

The first building block weighs about 260 tons, and is part of the central section of the upcoming sister ship to Koningsdam.  As a whole the vessel will be about 100,000 gross tons and hold 2,650 guests.  It will be modern and contemporary in style, while blending in the traditional elegance that Holland America is known for.  As was Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam will be designed by two of the world’s most prestigious architecture studios: Tihany Design and Yran & Storbraaten, with the ‘architecture of music’ theme as well.

The ship is also being constructed to optimize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
