The next time Holland America Line’s ms Maasdam pulls into Bar Harbor, Maine, it will be 2,000 lobsters heavier, this according to a local publication.

The lobster industry is hurting this season in Bar Harbor because of rising fuel and an over abundance of lobster being caught this season. The locals thought since Holland America ships are in Bar Harbor all the time, they should serve Bar Harbor lobster on their ships.

So, Cruise Maine’s representative Amy Powers reached out to CEO Stein Kruse, of Holland America, explaining the situation. Mr. Kruse replied back within 20-minutes saying he’d consider purchasing lobsters from Bar Harbor – the deal eventually went though.

The locals said working through the logistics and red tape was the biggest hurdle, but they teamed up and eventually got through it.

Next week the 1,258-guest ms Maasdam will anchor off of Bar Harbor and take on 2,000-grade A lobsters.

Great work!
