Mug shot after Rick Ehlert dropped anchor.

In November 2010, Holland America Lines ms Ryndam was heading back to Tampa, when a drunken 45- year old California resident, Rick Ehlert (right), broke into the control room and deployed the ships anchor while in international waters.

Though he admitted to being drunk during the incident he will still have to pay.

That night of fun is going to cost Mr. Ehlert a four-month sentence (two in jail and two under house arrest) on top of a $7,500 fine and substance abuse counseling.

You can see the video footage of the deployment here.

In a letter to the captain he wrote that he was ‘intrigued by the machinery’ and believed he could operate it.
