Port Everglades Breaks Cruise Passenger Record

Port Everglades in Florida had quite an exciting day yesterday.  They broke their own world record for the amount of guests that sailed in and out in a single day.  That record was broken quite recently before this, too – three months ago in December, with 53,485 passengers.  This time, it was a whopping 54,700 passengers that put the port over the edge.  That didn’t even include Balearia’s Bahamas Express ferry, which departed for a day trip yesterday with almost 400 passengers.  The port sure saw quite a few guests!

There were eight cruise ships that contributed to the record-breaking day for Port Everglades.  They were Carnival Conquest, Celebrity Silhouette, ms Eurodam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, Regal Princess, Royal Princess, Navigator of the Seas, and Allure of the Seas.  These are all of the same ships that were in port for the December 20 record, but because of spring vacation for many families last week and this week, the ships were fuller and left with more families aboard.

If lined up bow to stern, the eight ships would stretch 7,245 feet, or almost 27 football fields.  That’s enough cruise passengers to fill between 108 and 130 747 jumbo jets.  What a crazy past several months it’s been for Port Everglades, and congratulations to everyone there that makes it all possible.
