The Port of New Orleans shut down at 5pm Monday afternoon to brace for upcoming Hurricane Isaac. The local river pilots ceased operations and the river is closed to all deep draft vessels until the all-clear is given.

This port closure is not expected to affect cruise traffic (as of now). Carnival Conquest left on Sunday for a seven-night sailing, returning Sunday, September 2. Carnival Elation is scheduled to arrive back on Thursday.

All flights into New Orleans have also been canceled for Tuesday.

“The safety of our personnel and their families is paramount during any threat of this kind,” said Port President and CEO Gary LaGrange. “Our staff and terminal operators have taken all of the necessary precautions in anticipation of the worst, while we hope for the best. This isn’t our first rodeo.”

Well stated and good luck!
