The very first piece of steel has been cut for the first ship in Royal Caribbean’s brand new Project Sunshine ships. The steel cutting took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, where the two ships will be built.

As part of this announcement, the line announced the names of the two new Quantum class ships – Quantum of the Seas, set to debut in fall 2014, and Anthem of the Seas, which will follow in spring 2015.

Royal Caribbean looks to take bold and innovative steps with this new class of ships. Building on their legacy of ‘at sea firsts’ such as rock-climbing walls, ice-skating rinks, surf simulators, zip lines and even a tropical park with over 12,000 live plants, the line is designing and building unprecedented new experiences and amenities into this new class.

Eager for more details? Stay tuned as over the new few months, Royal Caribbean will make more announcements about what passengers can expect from Quantum and Anthem of the Seas.
