Holland America Line’s ms Veendam recently failed a surprise health inspection, according to the Center of Disease Control’s website. The CDC requires a score of 86 to pass the inspection, the Veendam scored a 77.

The 1,350-guests Veendem was cited for infractions in the galley area, buffet area and dish washing area on August 19.
This is a twice a year inspection is part of the Vessel Sanitation Program that occurs at random with cruise ships docked in U.S. ports.
In a statement to USA Today, Holland America said, “The score resulted largely from one area of the ship’s overall operation,” the line says in the statement. “All the issues raised in the report were immediately addressed and have now been corrected. We have also ensured that our management and training practices in this area have been refocused to ensure continued success.”
On a more positive note, many cruise ships scored 100 percent over the past couple of months including: ms Zuiderdam, Diamond Princess, Carnival Freedom, Norwegian Pearl and Queen Mary 2.
