After traveling for 12 hours, we finally made it to Barcelona. A quick cruise ship transfer to the airport and we were ready to check-in and board. We were the second people to board the ship and went straight to our room to put our gear away before going to check out the public spaces.
First impressions
I was very impressed. The atrium looks the same as far as the public space goes but with a total makeover. There is a big sunshine sphere hanging on top of the bar and a bunch of little ones surround the whole lobby.
We went directly to the deck five to check out where the big renovations took place – and boy did they! Starting forward there are new shops, the casino is totally redone, the EA Sports Bar was looking good. The Shake Spot and coffee place was very open and nothing like the old coffee shop on Carnival Destiny.
Walking back more we came upon the RedFrog Pub, pure awesomeness. It felt a lot bigger than the old one did. The only difference is there’s not a wrap around deck on the outside of the ship. Fair enough. If they give me a big RedFrog Pub, I can drink my ThirstyFrog Red beer in there.
The cabin
Walking into the cabin wasn’t like walking into a new cabin, but then again it kind of was. The space was opened on the cabin a lot more than it was on Carnival Destiny. The cabins are decorated a lot like Carnival Breeze. Very Caribbean-like. The fixtures in the bathroom also looked brand new. It’s pretty safe to say the cabins were totally made over.
If you remember, back in February we shot a video aboard Carnival Destiny going over what was going to be changed. You can check out that video here.
The Alchemy Bar and Piano Bar were towards the aft end of the ship as well. The Piano Bar was just revamped and moved down a deck. The Alchemy Bar was brand new, taken place of the old wine bar. There’s always a great drink to be made there. I had this delish cucumber drink.
Limelight Lounge is on deck four, also home of The Punchliner Comedy Club presented by George Lopez. We had cocktails before dinner in there last night.
Dinner was in the sunrise dining room and we had salmon, broccoli and crème brule for desert.
I was super jet lagged so I called it a night directly after dinner. When I say I called it a night, I crashed as soon as my head hit the pillow.
We’ll have daily trip reports from our nine-night voyage so I won’t go in to detail about every single venue right now, but know we’ll be covering Carnival Sunshine from stem to stern while on this sailing.
