Is This the Ultimate Suitcase for Cruisers?

Depending on how you look at it, we’re either about to show you the coolest travel gadget to come out in ages… or a product for the laziest people on the planet. Heck, maybe it’s both. But we’ll let you be the judge.

Meet Modobag, described as being “the world’s first motorized, smart and connected carry-on [suitcase] that gets savvy travelers, tech enthusiasts, and urban day-trippers to their destination up to three times faster than walking.” Translation: Hope aboard and leave the driving to your luggage.

We know, we know, you have lots of questions. Like, “How much does it cost?” and… well, that’s probably the biggie. But before we get to that, let us tell you a little bit more about this amazing product that will definitely not have people gawking, pointing, and laughing at you.

“Modobag is one of the most innovative and exciting advancements to hit the travel industry since rolling suitcases,” says Kevin O’Donnell… who happens to be the guy that invented the bag. “I have test driven the Modobag at heavily-trafficked airports, including O’Hare, JFK, and LaGuardia. From the first-time traveler to the veteran flight attendant, there is widespread agreement that Modobag will help make travel more functional and fun. Where once travelers had to run through the airport with heavy gear to catch connections, they can now get where they need to be on time on their Modobag!”

How Fast Does It Go?

According to the Modobag site, the suitcase can travel “up to six miles” on a single charge. And how fast will you be going? About 8 miles per hour. More importantly, you’ll be having fun… and we know that none of our readers would be the kind of person to, you know, plow down people who get in their way! And surely your teens wouldn’t take the bag out for a joyride, racing each other around the promenade deck of your cruise ship! (Cue the lawsuits in 3… 2…).

So assuming that you simply must have rideable luggage, how much can you expect to pay for it? Well… there’s a catch. You see, when you click on the “Buy Now” button on Modobag’s page… you are directed to their IndieGoGo campaign. Which, it’s worth mentioning, has proven wildly successful. Their initial goal was to raise $50,000 and they have – to date – brought in nearly $300,000!

We can, however, get a general idea of what they are expecting the bags to go for based on the “perks” offered to IndieGoGo funders. Those paying $995 (plus shipping and handling) will be “among the first” to get their rideable luggage at what the site says is 33% cheaper than the retail price would be. (But act fast, because as of this writing, 171 of the 200 available at this level have already been claimed and are expected to be shipped right around the beginning of 2017.)

See for Yourself!

Would you consider buying a suitcase you can ride? How much would you be willing to pay for it?
