Where Should Norwegian’s New Ship Go?

When it comes to ship-related questions, cruise addicts can be a lot like the Scooby-Doo gang. We want to get to the bottom of things, but if answers aren’t readily available, we’ll happily chow down on theories and speculation as if they were the Scooby snacks everyone’s favorite mystery-solving pooch so loves! So today, we’re piling into the Mystery Machine and asking ourselves a few questions about the as-yet-unnamed ship Norwegian Cruise Line has in the works!

What We Know

This is a pretty thin file, and it is labeled “not much!” This summer will see Norwegian Joy entertaining the cruise-hungry masses of China, and Norwegian Bliss is going to spend a little time doing Alaska runs out of Seattle before relocating to Miami and taking passengers to the Caribbean during the winter. But then there’s the other ship on the horizon, about which next to nothing is known.

Where Might The New Ship Call Home?

While Norwegian has been tight-lipped about the new ship’s homeport, we’ve got a few theories. For instance, a recent release from the company said that Pride of America will continue sailing from Honolulu through May of 2019, leaving us to wonder if perhaps she’d then be replaced by the new ship. This seems somewhat unlikely, however, given the vast difference in size between the two vessels.

With Norwegian Gem leaving New York City and being replaced temporarily by Escape, New York City seems another possible departure venue for the unnamed vessel. On the international front, Norwegian recently announced that they would be expanding their presence in Sydney, making Australia another possibility.

When Will We Know?

On the plus side, we won’t have to wait too much longer for answers as to the ship’s name and home port. Cruise Industry News recently reminded us that during Norwegian’s third quarterly report, president and CEO Frank del Rio said they were slated to give an “update at the next earning call as to which way we’re going.” And the fourth quarter earnings report should roll out sometime next month.

But until then, we can all feel free to guess, speculate, hope, and even place bets as to where the ship will land and what its name will be. Want to take a guess? Hit the comments with your thoughts, and we’ll update you with the details as soon as they become available.
