Florida cruise ports across the state are starting to reopen following Hurricane Milton’s passage through the Sunshine State on Wednesday evening.
Over 20 cruise itineraries are already changing ports or adding extra sea days to sailings this week, and the United States Coast Guard is sending alerts to update the ports’ status.

Port Condition Key
- Whiskey: Gale-force winds (39-54 mph) are expected within 72 hours. Ports remain open, but residents are advised to exercise caution and prepare.
- X-Ray: Gale-force winds are expected within 48 hours. Ports are still open, but some restrictions may be placed to begin securing operations.
- Yankee: Gale-force winds are expected within 24 hours. Ports are closed to incoming vessels, and outbound vessels may be restricted.
- Zulu: Gale-force winds are expected within 12 hours. Ports are fully closed to all incoming and outgoing vessels, and all operations cease.
When Will Cruise Ports Reopen?
If your cruise port is closed, there is a process for returning it online. After the storm passes, the US Coast Guard assesses the port and surrounding areas to determine when operations can resume.
The reopening process depends on factors like:
- Damage Assessment: The Coast Guard, port authorities, and local officials inspect port facilities, navigation channels, and safety equipment (e.g., lights, buoys) for damage.
- Debris Clearance: Any debris in the port or navigation channels must be cleared before vessels can safely navigate. This process can delay reopening depending on the severity of the storm’s impact.
- Restoration of Power and Services: Ports may require essential services such as electricity, water, and communication systems to be fully operational before reopening.
