MSC Guests Compensated with Future Cruise Credit After Small Generator Fire

MSC Cruises is offering future cruise credits to passengers aboard the MSC Seashore after a small fire broke out on the vessel on December 8.

The electrical fire occurred in the emergency generator room on an upper deck. Though it was promptly extinguished and no one was hurt, it impacted elevator, internet, and electrical services. Air conditioning in a few areas was turned off, while some amenities were momentarily closed to the public.

Acknowledging these interruptions, the memo reads, “While our itinerary was not disrupted, it did affect some services, and for that we deeply apologize.”

The same letter shared that MSC Cruises would compensate affected MSC Seashore guests with discounted fares on their next cruise.

“Our mission is to always offer the best experience and we are disappointed when we fall short. Recognizing the impact on your experience, we are extending you a future cruise with us amounting to 20% of the cruise fare paid,” the memo continued.

The announcement clarified that the FCC could only be used on the cruise fare and could not be used to pay for taxes and port fees. Additionally, the compensation cannot be redeemed as cash, transferred, or treated as a refund. Guests who were part of the December 8 sailing have one year to reserve another vacation with the cruise line to redeem their discounted rates.

According to some passengers, MSC Cruises also distributed $200 in onboard credits to guests.

“Clouds of Smoke”

MSC Seashore had just left Port Canaveral and was on its way to the Bahamas when passengers noticed smoke coming from the vessel on the evening of December 8.

One guest shared as the incident was unfolding, “I was able to see clouds of smoke rising for several hours from what looked like the water park area and the latest announcements were guests with mobility needs couldn’t get to dinner or back to cabins from dinner as elevators weren’t running.”

The cruise line assured guests that the fire “was swiftly extinguished, with no injuries reported.”

In 2024, fire-related incidents were reported aboard the Adora Mediterranea, Icon of the Seas, and Carnival Freedom.
