Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has begun informing booked guests that it is adding Cabo Rojo to a few of its itineraries from October 2024 onwards.
Its letter to passengers reads, “We have exciting news–to provide you with the best experience, we’ve added a brand-new port to our itinerary! We’ll now have a full day’s visit to Cabo Rojo, Dominican Republic, and it’s Royal Caribbean’s first time ever visiting this destination!” |
Adventure of the Seas will be the first vessel from the RCI fleet to call on the area on October 16. During its eight-night voyage, the Voyager-class cruise ship will still go to Curaçao, Aruba, and Royal Caribbean’s Bahamian resort Perfect Day at Coco Cay. To make room for its new destination, it will shorten its stay at Curaçao and deduct one sea day from its schedule.
Oasis of the Seas will also include the new port in its sailings by May next year.
What Can Cruisers Expect From Cabo Rojo?
Cabo Rojo is close to the Haitian border. Its name means “red cape” in English because of the scarlet hues of its seaside cliffs, dirt roads, and salt flats. Popular tourist activities in the Pedernales Province include hiking, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, birdwatching, and sunbathing.
The cruise line’s shore excursions offer ATV rides, a visit to Beautiful Baby Beach Club, and a coastal cruise. Previous passengers who visited likened Cabo Rojo’s remoteness to a newer Amber Cove, another Carnival port stop in the country.
Its new facility can accommodate up to a million passengers a year. The local government hopes it will drive tourism, generate more than 5,000 employment opportunities for locals, and ultimately aid economic development.
Royal Caribbean isn’t the first major cruise line to add Cabo Rojo to its itineraries. Last year, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, and Holland America ships started docking on the Dominican Republic’s southwestern coast.
