The weekend incident was caught on video and has gone viral online.

He was seen hanging from the ropes above the water for some time, slowly working his way toward the ship.

A New South Wales Police boat was deployed to try to talk him down.

The cruise ship crew was also seen on the video trying to coax the man down.

Police said the mooring line was slowly lowered down toward the police boat, and the man was grabbed by police officers and taken to shore.

He was formerly arrested and taken from the Overseas Passenger Terminal to Day Street Police Station for questioning.

“Police were called following reports a man had attempted to climb onto a cruise ship via a mooring line. On arrival, police attached to Marine Area Command found the man suspended over the water from the mooring line,” a NSW Police statement said.

“The line was lowered onto a police boat before the man was arrested”.

He was later charged with three counts of unauthorized entry into a restricted zone.

He was later granted conditional bail and is due to attend a first court hearing on June 11.

The spectacle attracted a crowd of onlookers at Sydney Harbor situated just outside the cruise terminal’s restricted area.

The man’s antics have sharply divided social media.

Some posters called it fun and complimented the man’s athleticism, while others slammed the “stupid, idiotic” stunt.
