Disney Cruise Line Adds Four Ships, Doubling Fleet Size

Disney Cruise Line continues its growth trajectory with another new order for four ships. Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro revealed the latest major expansion for DCL at the weekend’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event.

DCL Fleet Will Double in Size in the Next Seven Years

The new quartet of ships is slated for delivery between 2027 and 2031. This will more than double the current fleet size within seven years. The fleet currently consists of five ships, with another four already in development.

“Expanding our fleet gives more people, in more parts of the world, the opportunity to experience a vacation at sea like only Disney can provide,” D’Amaro said. Disney Treasure was just recently floated out and joins the fleet in late 2024.

Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure will launch in 2025. The latter will be the largest vessel at over 200,000 GT and the first to homeport in Asia.

The line also recently agreed to a new partnership with Tokyo Disneyland operator Oriental Land Co., Ltd for a new ship dedicated to the Japanese market, which is expected to launch in 2029.

Thomas Mazloum, President of New Experiences Portfolio and Disney Signature Experiences, said there is ample demand to expand the fleet size, with stateroom occupancy at 97% across its five ships in the second quarter of 2024.

“Our growing fleet will further strengthen Disney Cruise Line’s position. Disney Cruise Line has produced strong returns on capital investment, thanks to high-quality experiences, generating strong guest satisfaction and consistent demand: occupancy.”

No specific details about the four new ships have been shared yet. The company said their names, design and layout, amenities, and itineraries are still being developed. However, at D23, fans were given a glimpse of “Disney The Tale of Moana,” which premieres on the Disney Treasure when the ship launches later this year.
