The Prima Plus-class vessel debuts in April 2025, with a christening ceremony scheduled in Miami on April 13. During the event, Stonestreet will honor maritime tradition by breaking a champagne bottle across the Aqua’s bow, wishing the ship and its passengers good luck.

Stonestreet won the hearts of Americans as a mainstay on the ABC sitcom Modern Family which aired from 2009 to 2020. His performance on the show earned him two Emmys.

The 53-year-old also lent his talents to other lighthearted productions, Identity Thief and The Secret Life of Pets. Additionally, Stonestreet hosted the reality competition series Domino Masters and is part of the Disney+ streaming series The Santa Clauses.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) President, David J. Herrera, was impressed by Stonestreet’s charisma and humor, remarking that they were a perfect match for the 156,300-ton vessel and the cruise line.

“Eric’s authenticity, wit, charm, and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embodies the role of godfather for Norwegian Aqua, as well as who we are and what we stand for as a company. We are honored to have Eric as the godfather of Norwegian Aqua,” Herrera declared.

Stonestreet shared his excitement, saying, “I am blown away by what’s in store for Norwegian Aqua and I cannot wait to take a ride on the Aqua Slidecoaster, indulge in some red curry at the all-new Sukhothai, and most importantly create lifelong memories with my own family while on board this innovative new ship.”

After the christening, Norwegian Aqua will host seven-day itineraries from Port Canaveral, taking guests to Caribbean ports of call like Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. Its voyages will also feature NCL’s exclusive destination in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay.

The 3,571-passenger vessel’s maiden season will be followed by seasonal five- and seven-day Eastern Caribbean sailings, taking place from October 2025 to April 2026 and November 2026 to March 2027.

The first Prima Plus-class vessel boasts more spacious public spaces, the hybrid rollercoaster Aqua Slidecoaster, a high-tech digital sports complex, a reimagined Galaxy Pavilion, three-bedroom duplex suites, and brand-new dining options.
