Norwegian Cruise Line to Drop Drink Package Access at Great Stirrup Cay in 2026

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced it will discontinue its onboard beverage packages at its private island, Great Stirrup Cay, starting March 1, 2026.

The change applies to all promotional and purchased drink packages, including those received through Free at Sea or More at Sea offers.

Passengers will still have access to complimentary non-alcoholic beverages such as water, iced tea, and juices while ashore. But their drink package will not be valid off the ship.

According to a letter sent to booked guests, “Your beverage package perks will be fully active again once you’re back onboard.”

Purchases made on the island will be charged to guests’ key cards.

To offset the change, NCL plans to introduce a standalone beverage package exclusively for Great Stirrup Cay. This new option will be available for purchase starting January 1, 2026. Specific pricing and inclusions have not yet been announced.

In a separate communication to travel advisors, the cruise line said, “We will offer our guests the ability to purchase a new beverage package crafted exclusively for Great Stirrup Cay. Further details…will be shared in the future.”

The beverage policy update comes as a two-part expansion program in underway at Great Stirrup Cay.

New features will include:

  • A pier to support easier island access
  • An expansive pool area with free loungers
  • A splash pad for children
  • Vibe Shore Club, an adults-only retreat
  • Great Life Lagoon, a new relaxation area
  • Great Tides Waterpark, launching summer 2026 with 19 waterslides and a lazy river

These updates bring NCL’s private island policy more in line with other major cruise lines.

Both Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line, which share access to Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, also forbid the use of onboard drink packages while guests are ashore.
