Seventeen vehicles were stolen from a cruise ship parking facility in Southampton, England, over a two-day period in September, leaving cruise passengers returning from their sailing without their cars.
Mass Theft at Cruise Parking Facility
The vehicles were taken between September 9 and September 10 from Southampton Cruise Parking Services, located on First Avenue in Millbrook. The facility serves cruise passengers who leave their cars while sailing from the busy Southampton cruise port, which handles dozens of cruise ship departures weekly.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed the investigation: “Officers are investigating after a number of vehicles have been reported stolen from a cruise parking lot on First Avenue. It is reported that 17 vehicles were stolen between 9 and 10 September.”
Security Questions Raised
Despite signs posted at the facility claiming the building is “under 24 hour surveillance,” the theft occurred undetected or unpreventedacross two consecutive days.
The facility’s signage also states that “all vehicles including contents are left on this site entirely at owners sole risk,” limiting liability for the stolen vehicles.
Many cruise parking facilities charge premium rates for supposedly secure storage, making this incident particularly concerning for travelers.
Police Seeking Information
Hampshire Constabulary is actively investigating the thefts and has requested public assistance. Anyone with information about the stolen vehicles is asked to contact police with reference number 44250409694.
Witnesses or anyone with relevant information can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111 or through their website. The anonymous reporting option may encourage witnesses who might otherwise be reluctant to come forward.
Impact on Cruise Industry
Southampton serves as one of Europe’s busiest cruise ports, with major cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Cunard Line, P&O Cruises, and Celebrity Cruises.
