Brilliant Lady Docks in Portsmouth Ahead of Maiden Voyage to New York City

Brilliant Lady, the newest addition to the Virgin Voyages fleet, made her first U.K. appearance this morning, docking at Portsmouth International Port.

A large modern cruise ship with red and white accents sails through a harbor near a city. A tall, white, sail-shaped tower and various buildings are visible along the shoreline under a cloudy sky.

Her arrival completes a fleet milestone, making Portsmouth the first port globally to host all four Virgin Voyages ships.

The vessel will remain in Portsmouth for four days before setting off on her first commercial sailing to New York on Thursday, August 21.

Multiple Days in Portsmouth

During her stay, Brilliant Lady is hosting guests for onboard experiences and will also hold a career-focused event for local educators. Twenty career specialists from regional schools and colleges will tour the ship to learn about cruise industry roles and opportunities.

“This is where we introduced Scarlet Lady to the world. Four years later, we’re celebrating the arrival of Brilliant Lady,” said Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu. “Portsmouth has welcomed us from the start and been a great partner.”

Portsmouth has played a key role in Virgin Voyages’ U.K. operations. The council-owned port has seen over 72,000 Virgin Voyages passengers pass through since 2021, contributing significantly to the city’s cruise sector growth.

Cllr Steve Pitt, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, said, “All profit made by the port goes directly back into funding vital council services, so it is always exciting for residents to see such a wide range of ships coming through the harbour.”

Brilliant Lady is also hosting members of the International Chamber of Shipping and the International Underwriting Association for shipboard briefings.

Virgin Voyages ships are shore power–ready and will connect to the port’s system once operational.

The port is expected to generate £10.3 million in profit for the city council this year, with each cruise call contributing up to £1.5 million to the local economy, according to industry estimates.

Brilliant Lady departs Portsmouth at 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 21.

Sister ship Scarlet Lady will continue operating from the port until September 12.
