Disney Treasure Debuts With Dazzling Light Show Over Hudson River

Disney Cruise Line (DCL) christened its newest vessel, Disney Treasure, with a visually impressive light show over New York City’s Hudson River.

The festive spectacle could be seen illuminating the sky last Tuesday night. A thousand synchronized drones came together above the LNG-powered ship, depicting Disney icons from Aladdin, Moana, Coco, and Haunted Mansion.

As they painted pictures in the air, a lively medley of Disney songs played in the background. Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Jordin Sparks performed a moving rendition of “Live the Adventure,” the Wish-class vessel’s very own anthem.

Bob Iger, The Walt Disney Company’s Chief Executive Officer, revealed that the cruise line chose to honor the hard work of its employees by making them the “official godparents of the Disney Treasure.”

The godparents or employees ended the ceremony by wishing good fortune on the vessel and everyone sailing on it. Instead of breaking the traditional champagne bottle across the bow, the drones showed a champagne bottle fading into the evening sky.

Disney Cruise Line has big ambitions for its fleet, with seven more ships scheduled for delivery by 2031. Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro referred to the coming years as a “dramatic period of expansion.”

He summarized the growth of DCL’s six-vessel fleet, saying, “We are more than doubling our fleet to 13 ships by 2031 so that we can bring Disney cruise vacations to even more families across the globe.”

D’Amaro added that Disney Treasure will continue the brand’s storytelling legacy at sea.

The 140,000-ton vessel will depart on its maiden voyage on December 21, 2024. It will then offer weeklong sailings to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Florida.

Disney Treasure’s highly awaited amenities include the tube ride AquaMouse, new dining and lounge concepts, the decadent Grand Hall, the first live production of Moana, and the lavish Tomorrow Tower Suite.
