Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has officially taken delivery of its newest ship, Norwegian Aqua, marking a major milestone for the cruise line’s fleet expansion. The 20th ship in NCL’s lineup and the first of the next-generation Prima Plus Class, Norwegian Aqua was handed over at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera, Italy on March 13.

Norwegian Aqua builds on the success of its predecessors, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. The ship is 10% larger, measuring 1,056 feet in length and weighing 156,300 gross tons, with a capacity of 3,571 guests at double occupancy.

Beyond its size, Norwegian Aqua prioritizes open spaces, modern design, and high staffing levels to ensure top-tier service. Guests can expect a mix of brand-new and signature dining experiences, including the popular Cagney’s Steakhouse and Le Bistro.

Entertainment options include Revolution: A Celebration of Prince, an immersive tribute show featuring the late singer’s chart-topping hits, and Elements: The World Expanded, an acrobatics and magic-filled spectacle inspired by the four elements.

Among the ship’s highlights is the Aqua Slidecoaster, the first-ever fusion of a rollercoaster and waterslide at sea, promising a thrilling ride with twists, turns, and ocean views.

While Norwegian Aqua readies for service, NCL is already looking ahead to Norwegian Luna. With her float-out now complete, the ship moves into the next phase of construction before her expected launch in 2026.

Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of Fincantieri’s merchant ships division, highlighted the shipyard’s partnership with NCL, stating, “Norwegian Aqua is a testament to the solid and enduring partnership between Norwegian Cruise Line and Fincantieri.” He also pointed to the cruise industry’s continued growth, with more groundbreaking ships on the way.

Norwegian Aqua will debut with a series of inaugural European sailings before crossing the Atlantic.

She will arrive in the US on April 4, 2025, with special events in Boston and New York City before being officially christened in Miami on April 13, 2025. Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet, known for his role in Modern Family, will serve as the ship’s godfather.

During her first year, Norwegian Aqua will sail from Miami, Port Canaveral, and New York City. Caribbean itineraries will include stops in the Dominican Republic, US Virgin Islands, and NCL’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. This summer, she will also offer Bermuda cruises from New York, featuring overnight stays to give guests more time to explore the island.

With its groundbreaking attractions and expanded offerings, Norwegian Aqua represents the future of NCL’s fleet, promising an exciting new experience for cruisers.
