Cruise Port Parking Alternatives

If you’re driving to a cruise port to catch a sailing and don’t want to pay up to $20 per day to park, you’re in luck, there are cruise port parking alternatives out there.

The fact is that a lot of folks don’t factor in the cost of cruise pier parking when it comes time to budgeting, but they should, it adds up and can set your budget up for a big disappointment.

Here are a couple of options we found:

Park and Cruise Hotel Packages. There are quite a few hotels at the cruise pier area that offer this service, you basically park your car, stay a night and take your cruise. Many properties will even let you use your hotel stay on the back end of your cruise. The website Stay123.com helps you find park and cruise properties in the area.

One that caught my eye was the Hilton Garden Inn located on Staten Island for passengers embarking out of Bayonne, NJ.  Park and Cruise packages in the area came up to $199, which includes the room, parking for seven-nights and complimentary shuttle service. Normal pier parking in NJ is $19 per day.

Another attractive rate I found was in Fort Lauderdale at the Ramada Inn Airport-Cruise Port, for $69 per night, offering parking, breakfast and complimentary shuttle service. Parking at Port Everglades is $15 per day.

Off-site Parking. There are many lots around the cruise port that offer cruise parking for as little as $6.95 per day, along with complimentary shuttle service. Aside from the 0ff-site lots, some airports even offer this parking service.

Many off-site parking lots have an online coupon, so do your research.

Tips:

  • Use message boards like CruiseCritic or Cruise-Addicts, they are there to help and chances are your questions have already been answered.
  • Use BiddingForTravel.com if you use Priceline or Hotwire, this site will offer you assistance when bidding and often reveal properties, all for free.
  • Sometimes parking at the pier is easier and worth it because you can walk right off the ship and to your vehicle. Weigh out all your options and budget before making a decision.
