Holland America Line welcomed the Seattle Symphony and special guest, acclaimed composer Marvin Hamlisch, on board ms Amsterdam Friday, June 1, in Seattle for the organization’s annual spring recital. This is the second time the line has hosted this event.
More than 100 symphony supporters were invited on board for lunch and a special performance by Hamlisch, who showcased some of his famous piano compositions in the ship’s grand show lounge. Broadway performer Ashley Brown accompanied Hamlisch as a guest vocalist for the afternoon. Hamlisch is the composer of more than 40 motion picture scores including his Oscar-winning “The Way We Were” and his adaptation of Scott Joplin’s music for “The Sting,” for which he received a third Oscar.
Holland America Line is a proud supporter of the Seattle Symphony, sponsoring a variety of performances throughout the year in addition to the annual shipboard spring recital. Holland America Line also provides Symphony employees with the opportunity to attend classes at HAL University, a career and development program at the cruise line. Holland America Line recently donated shelving from its headquarters to the Symphony to enhance their library. Additionally, one of the company’s senior vice presidents, John Delaney, serves on the Symphony’s Board of Directors.
