Holland America Line is raising the price of daily gratuities again; the last time this occurred being in 2015.

The “hotel service charge” as the line refers to gratuities, is for dining room wait staff, room stewards, and other crew members that most guests never have direct contact with, such as laundry and galley staff.  For sailings departing on or before April 30, 2017, the charge for suites is $13.50 per guest per day, and $12.50 per guest per day for all other rooms.  For cruises departing on or after May 1, 2017, the daily charge for suites will be $15 per guest per day, and $13.50 per guest per day for all other rooms.

To compare, currently Princess Cruises charges $12.95 per person per day, and Celebrity Cruises charges $13.50.
