New Azamara Club Cruises Ship Godmother Named

In anticipation of its christening this August, Azamara Club Cruises has named the godmothers of their new ship Azamara Pursuit.

EVP, Chief Revenue Officer of AFAR Media Ellen Asmodeo-Giglio and Editor-in-Chief of Travel Weekly UK Lucy Huxley will share the role of godmother for the vessel. At the forefront of the travel industry, the women are seasoned travelers and have almost 50 years of combined expertise from both consumer and travel trade perspectives. With the US and UK as two major markets for the cruise line, Ellen and Lucy were also chosen to represent the vessel on both sides of the Atlantic.

With a background as SVP, Publisher of Travel + Leisure as well as serving as the first publisher of the glossy WSJ, Ellen has a clear understanding of culture and the luxury landscape. In part because of her, AFAR Media has led the experiential travel movement and focused on “Traveling Deeper” since 2009. The brand aligns with Azamara’s Explore Further campaign, which launched in March 2018 and features over 900 shore excursions that connect travelers to destinations through intimate experiences.

Lucy Huxley

Lucy has covered cruising for 20 years and has sailed on multiple ships. She encourages her contacts in the UK to educate their customers on Azamara’s Travel Deeper promise and the fact that their experiences in faraway destinations will be thoughtful and immersive.

Spearheading editorial content across Travel Weekly’s UK portfolio, Huxley joined the company in 2010 and has worked in the UK travel trade media as a journalist and editor for over two decades. She has a passion for connecting with new places and cultures, and is most excited about Azamara Pursuit‘s voyages to South America.

Christening

The two godmothers will christen the ship in Southampton on August 28. Following the naming ceremony, Azamara Pursuit will set sail for an afternoon event in Cherbourg. The complimentary excursion will offer all 690 guests the change to debark in the evening and experience an exclusive bespoke performance. The cruise will end with a White Night celebration complete with a feast served poolside and dancing late into the night. Pursuit will be the first ship in the fleet to have godmothers.
