Carnival Cruise Ship Experiencing Technical Issues

Guest sailing on Carnival Victory were in for a surprise when they arrived to PortMiami on Monday afternoon. The scheduled cruise, a five-night sailing to Key West and Cozumel, had to be modified because of propulsion issues impacting the ships maximum cruising speed.

What Cruise Guests Were Told

A letter from Victory’s Captain Donato informed the guests that the ship would now have to sail to Nassau, Bahamas and the private island of Princess Cay. Carnival refunded all the shore excursions that were booked in Cozumel and Key West and gave the guests a$50 onboard credit for the inconvenience.

The guests had a choice to receive a full refund if they wanted to opt out of the sailing. Technicians are currently onboard trying to get the engines back to full speed.

A spokesman for Carnival Cruise Line said, ” Repairs are being made during this current cruise and we are planning for the scheduled itinerary for upcoming voyages.”

As part of Carnival Cruise Line’s $2 billion fleet-enhancement program, Carnival Victory will head to Cadiz, Spain on March 19, 2020 to undergo a 38-day refurbishment. And when she sets sail again on April 26, she will do so under the name Carnival Radiance.

Radiance will also be home to Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse. Meat lovers will be happy to hear that Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse — a complimentary, outdoor venue — will be serving up some of celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s much-loved food onboard, too.
