Holland America Cruise Ship Returns with Casino, Spa, and Lounge Upgrades

Holland America Line’s Oosterdam has returned to service after a two-week dry dock in the Bahamas. It received various upgrades to staterooms and public areas.

The Oosterdam, a large cruise ship, is docked near the shore with mountains in the background. A small yellow boat and a sailboat float on calm blue water under a partly cloudy sky, perfect for a relaxing spa day onboard.

Oosterdam Returns Refreshed

The ship resumed sailing from Fort Lauderdale over the weekend and is now crossing the Atlantic to begin a Mediterranean deployment that includes visits to Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Egypt.

The most prominent addition is a new Effy Lounge and jewelry boutique, which will replace the ship’s former movie theater.

A modern waiting area with a beige sofa, two green armchairs, and a round white coffee table evokes the relaxing ambiance of a spa. Glass doors lead to a brightly lit store with display cases and a large screen.

Modeled after Effy’s flagship store in New York City, the space offers guests a luxurious and personalized shopping experience.

The Casino also received an expansion, incorporating the former Gallery Bar to add 34 new slot machines and digital gaming tables.

Upgraded Staterooms and New Furnishings

Interior upgrades were extensive. Over 215,000 square feet of new carpeting was installed throughout the ship, including in suites, verandah staterooms, and popular public venues like the Atrium, Rolling Stone Lounge, and Greenhouse Spa.

Some staterooms received full bathroom renovations, and many balcony rooms now feature upgraded outdoor furniture.

Enhancements have been made to public spaces at the Greenhouse Spa & Salon, which now features a co-ed sauna, a couple’s treatment room, and a newly rebuilt thermal suite with updated experiential showers.

New Game Area in the New Crow’s Nest

A lounge on the Oosterdam with round tables, cushioned chairs, two high-backed armchairs, built-in bookshelves, a windowside bench with pillows, and geometric carpet under warm ceiling lights—perfect for relaxing after the spa or casino.

The Crow’s Nest has been transformed into a hub for games, puzzles, and arts and crafts, while the Neptune Lounge for suite guests received new furnishings and a refreshed layout.

Lido Market and Canaletto received cosmetic upgrades with new tiles and seating, and both the Lido and Sea View pools were refreshed with resin coatings and new spa hot tubs.

The Photo Gallery was updated with improved lighting, signage, and facial recognition technology for photo viewing.

Oosterdam will operate Mediterranean cruises through November before returning to South America and Antarctica for the winter season.
