When Christine Duffy and John Heald sat down for that carefully staged fireside chat back in June, they filled in some details Carnival had been building toward for over a year.
Today, with the Carnival Rewards program now live as of September 1, the final specifics are confirmed.
The numbers are finally on paper
Carnival first announced the four-tier structure, Red, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond, back in June 2025, along with the two-year earning cycle.
The exact star thresholds took longer to surface publicly, but they were live on CarnivalRewards.com and circulating in trade coverage well before today’s official rollout.
Now they’re confirmed directly by Carnival:
Red status comes automatically upon enrollment
Gold requires 10,000 Status Qualifying Stars
Platinum requires 50,000
Diamond requires 100,000
Guests earn 3 Stars for every dollar spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including gratuities, plus 1 Star for every Casino Point earned, whether or not that point gets redeemed onboard for Funplay.
A name that finally caught up with the product
Carnival’s press materials referred to a “Carnival Rewards Mastercard” as far back as its June 2025 announcement. But the actual card guests could apply for kept its old name and terms, the Carnival World Mastercard, all the way up until this week.
That’s why Heald and Duffy called it the Carnival World Mastercard on camera in June, that was still the accurate name of the live product at the time.
As of today, the rename is real. The terms are now official too: a 50,000 point bonus after $1,000 in spending within 90 days, up to 6X points on Carnival purchases, 2X on restaurants and groceries, 1X on everything else, a 0% promotional APR for six months on cruise bookings, and a 2,500 point bonus on each cardholder anniversary.
Know before you book
If any of your past cruises still carry unused VIFP benefits, you have until the end of 2030 to use them after opting into Carnival Rewards.
Carnival also confirmed, and had in fact first announced in a September 2025 release, that guests who reach Diamond status in the current VIFP program by August 31, 2026 will keep lifetime Diamond status under the new system.
Carnival Rewards also points guests toward a Milestone Recognition Program tied to days sailed.
The website says, “From your 50th day sailed to your 500th and beyond, elevate your experience with rewards like these, yours to enjoy during the cruise when your milestone occurs.”
This gives guests 5,000 Carnival Rewards points after 50 days sailed, 10,000 reward points and onboard credit at 100 days sailed (and every 100 days thereafter), and a milestone at 500 days sailed with 10,000 points, onboard credit, and a special gift.
