When Christine Duffy and John Heald sat down for that carefully staged fireside chat back in June, they raised more questions than they answered.
Today, with the actual Carnival Rewards program now live as of September 1, some of those blanks have finally been filled in.
The numbers are finally on paper
Back in June, Duffy told guests that stars would determine status but stopped short of saying how many stars it would take to get anywhere.
Now we know.
Red status comes automatically upon enrollment
Gold requires 10,000 Status Qualifying Stars
Platinum requires 50,000
Diamond requires 100,000
Guests earn 3 Stars for every dollar spent on eligible Carnival purchases, including gratuities, plus 1 Star for every Casino Point earned, whether or not that point gets redeemed onboard for Funplay.
Points work on a separate track. Guests earn 3 Points per dollar spent, plus 1 Point for every Casino Point left unredeemed at the end of a sailing.
Points post about 14 days after the cruise ends and can be redeemed as soon as they land, toward future cruises, shore excursions, specialty dining, or spa treatments.
One name changed along the way
The credit card Heald and Duffy referred to in June as the Carnival World Mastercard has been renamed the Carnival Rewards Mastercard.
The terms are now official too: a 50,000 point bonus after $1,000 in spending within 90 days, up to 6X points on Carnival purchases, 2X on restaurants and groceries, 1X on everything else, a 0% promotional APR for six months on cruise bookings, and a 2,500 point bonus on each cardholder anniversary.
Know before you book
If any of your past cruises still carry unused VIFP benefits, June’s reporting said you have until the end of 2030 to use them after opting into Carnival Rewards.
Today’s official release does not repeat that timeline, nor does it mention the lifetime status carveout Duffy and Heald never directly addressed on camera: that only guests who hit Diamond before August 31, 2026 keep lifetime status under the new system.
The release also points guests toward a Milestone Recognition Program tied to days sailed rather than number of cruises, matching what Duffy described in June.
The website says, “From your 50th day sailed to your 500th and beyond, elevate your experience with rewards like these, yours to enjoy during the cruise when your milestone occurs.”
This gives guests 5,000 Carnival Rewards points after 50 days sailed, 10,000 reward points and onboard credit at 100 days sailed (and every 100 days thereafter), and a milestone at 500 days sailed with 10,000 points, onboard credit, and a special gift.
