Norwegian Cruise Line Reveals New Ship Details, Including Video Of Wild Top-Deck Ride

With six months to go until Norwegian Cruise Line rolls out Aqua, they’re already looking for the next ship in the Prima-class.

But we know that when Aqua‘s younger sister is rolled out in early 2026, she’ll be dubbed the Norwegian Luna. And wait until you get a glimpse of the incredible top-deck ride they’re describing as the world’s first combination waterslide/roller coaster.

Meet the Norwegian Luna

Set to be introduced in March 2026—essentially a year after the Norwegian Aqua—NCL’s newest ship will homeport in Miami. The new ships will be 10 percent larger (and hold 10 percent more passengers) than the first ships in the class, Prima and Viva, and will hold approximately 3,550 guests (assuming double occupancy).

During her inaugural season, the ship will offer a variety of Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, each featuring a stop at one of its private resorts. Despite being in the relatively early stages of construction, Luna is officially available for bookings.

Like the other Prima-class ships, Luna will feature some of the line’s most popular venues, including specialty restaurants Cagney’s Steakhouse and Odna by Scarpetta and the complimentary Indulge Food Hall.

The Fastest Slides at Sea

But perhaps the thing that will generate the most buzz is the Aqua Slidecoaster, which promises a magnetic lift that will transport guests down two courses. According to NCL, these will be the longest, fastest slides at sea, as seen in the video below.

The ship will also feature a digital sports complex dubbed the Glow Court. The space will offer a variety of fun, interactive activities guests can enjoy during the day. And at night? The same space will transform into a vibrant nightclub where guests can dance the night away.

What’s Behind the Name?

According to David Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, the ship was “inspired by the relationship between the moon and the tides of the ocean.” He added that the introduction of the ship would “showcase our ongoing commitment to providing guests more of what they enjoy and value.

As for the hull art — a feature Norwegian ships have become famous for over the years — it is by California street artist ELLE, and is titled “La Luna.” Says the artist, “It’s been an incredible experience crafting this piece and knowing [it] will sail across the seas, traveling the globe for all to see.”

Meanwhile, Norwegian also announced that when Aqua debuts in March of 2025, the featured show on board will be built around one of the most iconic names in music, Prince. The show, titled Revolution: A Celebration of Prince will offer guests a concert-like experience featuring such world-famous tunes as “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Purple Rain.”
