It’s a sad fact that when bad things happen on a cruise ship, they tend to get a whole lot of attention. This week, however, it’s not a norovirus outbreak of the latest cruise-set Netflix documentary that has people talking, but rather a Carnival passenger using a fork in a most disturbing way while sitting in the buffet.
The Video Everyone’s Talking About
If you are a cruise lover, there’s every chance you’ve seen the video in question. This is especially true if the non-cruising people in your life know you’re a cruise lover. After all, folks like that love little more than to share stories about the dark side of the industry. If however you’ve somehow remained blissfully ignorant… well, Google the words “cruise fork video” and you can see for yourself.
Suffice it to say the video involves the bottom of a woman’s foot, a fork, extended scratching and a general sense — on the part of viewers — of disgust. While we aren’t sharing the video in order to conceal the offending party’s identity, this is without doubt a case in which a photo is worth a thousand words.
‘Forks Are Intended For Food’
Given just how viral the clips have gone, it was almost impossible for Carnival to avoid addressing the issue. “Hi, Carnival Cruisers,” the company wrote on its Facebook page. “We can confirm that forks are intended for food, not foot care. Once we became aware of the situation, our team quickly addressed it with the guest and removed the utensil from service.”
Their missive went on to play both sides, saying they were taking the issue seriously even while being somewhat playful in their delivery. “While the video may be generating laughs and gasps online,” the note read, “cleanliness and hygiene are no joke to us. Our crew works hard every day to maintain high standards across our feet fleet and to ensure all guests enjoy a safe, clean, and comfortable vacation.”
Remember, folks, nobody on a cruise ship is going to judge you for not knowing the difference between your salad and shrimp forks. But rest assured, there’s no such thing as a foot fork… and using one will not only get you judged but probably help you go viral in the worst possible way.
