Carnival Clarifies Bahamas Cruise Testing Requirements

Just days after announcing that vaccinated guests would have to test in order to take a cruise to the Bahamas, Carnival Cruise Line has changed its protocols yet again.

In an email to booked guests on Friday, the line said that effective August 8, vaccinated guests on cruises five nights or shorter do NOT need to test to sail to the Bahamas.

Unvaccinated passengers must take a PCR or antigen test up to three days prior to sailing.

For cruises six nights or longer, all guests, regardless of destination, must present a negative test result to sail.

Royal Caribbean Begins Homeporting in Haifa, Israel

Royal Caribbean has finally begun homeporting in Haifa, Israel.

Rhapsody of the Seas will offer mostly seven-night cruises in the eastern Mediterranean from the port city, as well as three and four-night voyages to Cyprus and Rhodes.

In May 2021, Royal Caribbean planned to homeport its brand-new ship Odyssey of the Seas in Haifa for a season, but changed plans when conflict escalated between Israel and Gaza.

Other cruise lines sailing from Haifa this year include Costa, MSC, Norwegian, Oceania, Seabourn, and Regent Seven Seas. In total, the port will host 109 cruise turnaround days and 116 port calls, adding up to its busiest year ever.

Skagway Cruise Port Impacted by Another Rockslide

Parts of the hillside above the Skagway cruise port continue to give way, as another rockslide occurred on Wednesday evening.

Norwegian Encore was docked at the pier at the time, but moved away as a precaution. Passengers were then tendered back to the ship on boats provided by Holland America’s Noordam, which was also in port at the time.

The dock’s security booth was hit by rocks during the incident, but no injuries were reported.

This rockslide was in the same area as another rockslide that occurred on June 23, which caused minor damage to the pier and Discovery Princess, which was docked there that day.

Princess Cruises has adjusted some of its Alaska itineraries this summer to skip Skagway due to additional rockslides that are expected at the docking area.
