Game of Thrones Themed Cruise Sailing This Summer in Croatia

Just in time for the launch of the Game of Thrones prequel series, Sail Croatia is offering a Game of Thrones themed cruise to various ports where Game of Thrones was filmed in Croatia.

Setting sail August 20, 2022, the voyage will be seven nights, visiting the locations of some of the most iconic scenes from the show including the Red Keep, Blackwater Bay, and the Walk of Shame.

Itinerary

Sail Croatia’s small ship Mali Ante will sail roundtrip from Split, which was used as a filming location for many scenes, most notably the palace dungeons where Daenerys kept her dragons. The first afternoon and night of the voyage will be spent down the Dalmatian coast at Makarska Riviera, nestled under the peaks of the Biokovo mountain range.

Day two will find passengers in Korcula, the rumored birthplace of Marco Polo. The ship will overnight docked in this fortified town, whose stone walls were built over 200 years ago. This is also the day that guests will be able to watch the first episode of the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, which debuts on HBO on this day (August 21).

Day three is Dubrovnik, one of the most prominent filming locations in all of Croatia. Once the ship docks, guests will head straight to Kings Landing to begin the Game of Thrones Walking Tour. Once visitors have explored on foot, they’ll take a short ferry ride to Lokrum Island, the stand-in filming location for the city of Qarth. After that, take a seat on the Iron Throne, which was gifted to the city of Dubrovnik after filming finished.

Day four will find passengers at the island of Mljet, which is a national park that houses an ancient Benedictine monastery.

Guests will spend day five in Hvar, the longest island in the Adriatic that’s famous for its superyachts and celebrity status.

For the second night on Hvar island, the ship will moor overnight in the harbor town of Stari Grad. Stari Grad literally means “Old Town” and is the oldest town in Croatia. It boasts a network of old narrow streets and small squares around the harbor, as well as vineyards and olive groves that surround the town.

Day seven finds the ship heading back to Split, stopping for a swim and lunch at a hidden coastal beach along the way. Once the ship arrives in the afternoon, guests can head to the Game of Thrones Museum, then go on an optional Split Walking Tour. Alternatively, passengers can visit the nearby Klis Fortress, the filming location for the City of Meereen, where Daenerys frees the slaves from their masters.

Inclusions & The Ship

The Mali Ante is a small ship that was completely rebuilt in 2013. It has 21 cabins and holds 38 passengers. Features include a hot tub, sun loungers, a swimming platform, and a dining room.
