Following investigations by ship security, Filipino crew member Arvin Joseph Mirasol, 34, was detained until the Symphony of the Seas returned to Port Everglades. He was then arrested. Mirasol had access to the room as part of his job cleaning staterooms.

An affidavit stated the camera was ‘affixed to the counter underneath the sink.’ Mirasol’s electronic items, including a phone, memory card, camera, and USB stick, were seized and examined by law enforcement. They found footage of “numerous videos of naked females undressing,” the criminal case affidavit said.

During questioning, Mirasol admitted to placing cameras in staterooms since he began working on the ship in December 2023.

He said he targeted rooms where there were females 16 years old and older. Mirasol has been charged with voyeurism and other charges related to the production and possession of the hidden camera footage.

“We have zero tolerance for this unacceptable behavior. We immediately reported this to law enforcement and terminated the crew member, and we will continue to fully cooperate with authorities,” Royal Caribbean said.

In December 2023, a Camp at Sea Youth counselor on a Celebrity cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s sister brand, was arrested for inappropriately touching minors. He was also immediately fired.
