The Mediterranean is one of Europe’s most popular destinations, and is especially popular among cruisers. MSC Cruises has seen a big demand from guests to explore southern Italy in particular recently, so next summer their ship MSC Fantasia will answer the call with a new itinerary in the region.
Naples, Italy will be one of the main highlights on this special itinerary in southern Italy. It’s perfectly located for exploring some of the country’s most popular southern attractions. Naples is also a dream for foodies, offering up dishes using delicious, fresh ingredients. Local pizza, freshly caught seafood, and the best coffee in Italy are some staples of the city. Guests can book a guided tour, or set out on their own to find interesting sights around every corner.
One example of a food-themed tour is the Delicious Naples Tour: Coffee, Pastry and Pizza. The excursion stops at a local haunt for a cup of Neapolitan coffee, then onto a pizza shop for Neapolitan style pies. Finally, the tour is completed with a taste of sfogliatella, a traditional shell-shaped pastry.
Other stops include the charming island of Capri, famed as a destination for chic celebrities and stunning sea views; Sorrento surrounded by deep blue waters; and Pompeii, the third mot popular tourist attraction in Italy.
One of the biggest draws for tourists in the region is one of the world’s most beautiful shorelines: the Amalfi Coast. Travelers can take a full day excursion to the town of Amalfi and the nearby village of Ravello, which are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The tour involves stops along the way in both towns, and then finishes with a scenic drive back to Naples.
MSC Fantasia also calls at two other Italian ports – Livorno, which has easy access to Florence, and Pisa; and Genoa, which sits on the northwest coast of Italy and is rich in maritime heritage. Next is a stop in Marseille, France, which boasts the most populated metropolitan area in the country after Paris and Lyon. For a change of pace, the Balearic islands of Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza are the best places to relax and unwind.
MSC Fantasia is nearly 138,000 gross tons and holds 3,900 passengers. The Ship features a water park, Formula 1 simulator, 4D cinema, the MSC Area Spa, sports courts, and a range of Mediterranean and internationally-inspired cuisines in a mix of formal and casual dining venues.
The vessel also includes the ship-within-a-ship concept MSC Yacht Club, which is located at the front of the ship. Those staying in the Yacht Club can take advantage of additional amenities including a private lounge, pool, and restaurant, as well as a 24/7 butler and concierge service.
