Starting today, Royal Caribbean has officially put the fastest internet at sea, VOOM, onto their entire fleet of 24 ships. This high-speed wifi capability means that guests will have the ability to connect to their social media accounts, browse the web, and even stream music and videos on their internet-accessible devices.
The enhancements to the fleet will provide internet speeds at least twice as fast as before, and are allowing the cruise line to charge less for the different internet packages that they offer. These two packages include:
- Surf – with this package, guests can surf the web, access email, and interact on their various social media networks. It is $12.99/device/day, with more devices added at a discounted cost. Family packages of 5 devices or more start at $8.99/device/day.
- Surf & Stream – this package allows guests all of the benefits of the Surf package, while also adding in the capability of streaming movies and music from Netflix and Spotify, and to use video chat apps such as Skype. It’s $17.99/device/day, with more devices added at a discounted cost. Family packages start as low as $11.99/device/day.
Many standard internet programs at sea change on a per-minute basis, so for guests who will spend a bit more time on the internet, these packages are a big improvement.
